Attrition Mills from Munson Machinery are ideally suited for reducing fibrous and friable materials within a relatively narrow particle size range from coarse down to 100 mesh.
Typical applications include materials that cannot be reduced by impact (hammer mills or pin mills) or by screen classification (screen classifying cutters) including: seeds, grains, spices, tobacco, roots, cellulose, fibers, minerals, metal powders and other products.
These "single runner" mills are equipped with an outer stator (stationary) milling disc, and an inner runner (rotating) milling disc that adjusts to vary the gap between the discs. Material enters the gap through the center of the outer disc, and is ground between the discs as it travels radially by centrifugal force created by the rotating disc.
The gap between the stationary and rotating discs is displayed by a gap indicator gauge, and is adjustable using a rear-mounted hand wheel, with smaller particle sizes achieved by reducing the gap.
Capacity is generally dependent on required particle size of the reduced material, with coarser products produced at higher rates.
A statically and dynamically balanced runner head assembly, precise machining and alignment of the discs, and constant spring pressure combine to maximize uniformity of the reduced material.
The replaceable milling plates are offered in several patterns to optimize size reduction for specific types of materials.
Vertical orientation of the discs, together with a quick-release hinged stator disc housing, allows for thorough clean-out between product runs. Interlocked, hinged doors provide interior access for cleaning and inspection.
The unit is available constructed of carbon steel, or #304 or #316 stainless steel to sanitary or industrial standards.
